A hot water circulator has many uses in our everyday life. It is a necessary part in closed-loop hot water applications, space heating or cooling, just to mention a few. Its working robustness is critical since a failure may result in explosion of a solar energy collector or a water boiler system or even user injuries. A proper design of such system has many safety features to prevent any damage but still there is a possibility.
Most problems occur due to mains electricity failure and mechanical safety valve failure. A solar-powered hot water circulator could avoid these problems, give us full autonomy and system robustness and at the same time save on our electricity bills.
To properly operate the circulator we need an automatic controller that will optimize the heating or cooling process and at the same time will maximise its lifespan.
The controller could be a simple timing circuit or a differential thermostat with some extra impeded system protection intelligence.
Such a controller you see here. The whole system could run directly from the sun without batteries or with batteries if night use is required.
A solar Panel of 20Wp should be enough for a solar-direct operation of a small-house application.
